Setting the Stage: Toddler Tea Party Setup

To begin this enchanting adventure, gather your child’s favorite toy tea set. Whether it’s a colorful plastic set or a dainty porcelain one, make sure it’s child-safe and appropriate for their age. Choose a cozy spot for the tea party, be it the living room, a blanket fort, or even a sunny corner of the backyard. Set up a small table or spread a soft blanket to create a designated tea party zone.

Here are links to a couple of our favorite tea sets – We have the one on the left, and our goddaughter has the right one.

How to Dress Your Toddler For a Tea Party

Dress for the occasion!  Nothing adds an extra dash of charm to a tea party like dressing up for the occasion. Let your little one pick out a fancy outfit or even a princess or prince costume. Encourage them to wear a hat or a tiara, just like proper tea party attendees. The more extravagant, the better!

For Oro, you can’t beat wearing an Elsa dress to the tea party.  Disney has a whole princess dress pajama collection (linked!) with just about the whole lineup of characters.  Just be careful, or you’ll end up with a closet full of fun, cozy, PJ outfits to get ready for naptime, a ball at the castle, or even a tea party.

Ambience Matters!

Inviting the Guests: Encourage your child to invite their favorite stuffed animals, dolls, or even a close friend for the tea party. Help them choose the perfect spots for their guests around the tea table. This is a fantastic opportunity to teach your child about social interactions and the importance of sharing and taking turns.

Decorate with Love: Transform your tea party space into a captivating wonderland by adding some simple decorations. Colorful ribbons, paper flowers, or even a tiny tablecloth can make a big difference. Engage your child in decorating their tea party area, allowing their creativity to bloom.

Both these balloon options are great for decorating and for filling out the guest list.  Honestly, there’s a medium probability chance these become the focus of playtime, not the tea.  Balloons are cool – Just ask a toddler.

During the Toddler Tea Party, Focus On...

Tea Time Etiquette: Teach your child some basic tea party etiquette, such as saying “please” and “thank you,” using their best table manners, and pouring tea (or pretend tea) for their guests. Encourage them to engage in conversation with their stuffed friends, practicing turn-taking and polite conversation.  Get the conversation started, and do some voices if you’re up for it – Prepare to play a lot of parts!

Serving Tea Party Treats: Imaginary is fine, but you can step it up with healthy snacks such as cut fruit, bite-sized sandwiches, or crackers. Make sure the treats are age-appropriate and easy for tiny hands to hold and eat. Consider serving flavored water, herbal tea, or even a fun fruit punch as a tea alternative.

A Couple More Tea Party Flourishes

Musical Tea Time: Add a sprinkle of music to your tea party for an extra touch of magic. Play soft, classical music or nursery rhymes in the background. Encourage your child to sway and dance along with their guests, creating a whimsical atmosphere of joy and merriment.

There are a lot of options in music boxes – This one comes with a toy!

Capturing the Memories: Don’t forget to capture the delightful moments of your toddler’s tea party. Take photos or even make a short video to cherish these precious memories. Your child will love revisiting their tea party adventures in the future.

If it’s a special or inaugural tea party, or you want to memorialize the time in your life when they couldn’t wait to play tea party (recommended – this won’t last), think about a special frame or photo props for your shoot.

Hosting a tea party with a toy tea set is a delightful way to engage your 2-year-old in imaginative play, social interaction, and good old-fashioned fun. Remember, the key ingredients for a successful tea party are imagination, love, and a dash of whimsy. So, grab that tea set, put on your fanciest attire, and embark on a journey of laughter and joy with your little one. Happy sipping and make-believe!
